The Lancaster-Lebanon League girls’ basketball season is officially over.
The league’s last two links to the PIAA playoffs were both eliminated Wednesday night in state second-round games:
Section 4 champ and league runner-up Lancaster Mennonite fell behind 29-6 at the half and 38-8 midway through the third quarter and fell to District 1 runner-up Mount Saint Joseph Academy 54-32 in a Triple-A Eastern quarterfinal at Coatesville High School.
How good was MSJ?
“Phenomenal,” Mennonite coach Sherri Gorman told me after the game. “Best team we’ve seen all season. We got beat by a team that was definitely better than us.”
Meanwhile, District 3 runner-up Lebanon Catholic led 33-31 heading into the fourth quarter, but fell to District 6 champ Bishop Guilfoyle 43-42 in a Single-A Eastern quarterfinal at Big Spring High School in Newville.
