HERSHEY — Happy Saturday morning from the Giant Center.
Lancaster Mennonite and Gettysburg are about to tip in the girls’ Triple-A title game.
I’ll pass along some updates. Stay tuned.
END OF FIRST QUARTER:
Mennonite leads 9-6. Nice running bank shot by Dani Zeamer with time running out in the first quarter put Blazers up 3. Gettysburg not shooting well and has a bunch of turnovers.
HALFTIME
Mennonite leads 17-8. Tough, tough D by Mennonite. And if the Blazers could finish around the basket, they’d be up like 30-8. Two big baskets in the second by Zeamer. Can’t stress how good the D has been — Gettysburg not getting many good looks, and when they do, they’re not making shots.
THIRD QUARTER
Mennonite just got 6 points in 8 seconds — Vanderhoff and 1. Missed free throw. LaVenice O board. She scored and one. Missed free throw. Mary Poole O board, putback bucket. Mennonite leads 24-13.
END OF THIRD QUARTER — Mennonite up 26-17. Doesn’t feel like a 9-point game. Blazers are completely dominating. If they make half their layups, they’re up 20.
FOURTH QUARTER
4:22 to go … Mennonite leads 26-20 after G-burg mini-run.
Crunch time.
3:00 to go … Mennonite up 28-21 — HUGE steal by Zeamer, who bats the ball ahead to Gorman, who scores in transition.
Nice atmosphere in here.
1:05 to go … Zeamer and 1 in transition puts Mennonite up 34-23. That might have broken Gettysburg’s back.
FINAL: Mennonite 37, Gettysburg 27.
Blazers are District 3 Triple-A champs. First district title in the history of the program.
