Penn Manor shocks Hempfield in OT; Cedar Crest clinches Section 1 with win over Warwick; Catholic, Mennonite set up 1-game playoff for Section 4 crown

The final night of section play in the Lancaster-Lebanon League turned out to be a real doozie.

After 16 league games, just one section race finished in a tie.

Lancaster Catholic, which topped Pequea Valley 81-34, and Lancaster Mennonite, which edged Lebanon Catholic 47-43, finished tied for the top spot in section 4, and will meet in a one-game playoff for the section title.

No word yet on the site or time for that game. It will be announced at a meeting Thursday morning at Cedar Crest. I’m planning on attending that meeting, and I’ll pass the info along ASAP.

But the big fun on the last night of league play came in Section 1, where pesky Penn Manor tossed a monkey wrench into the race, knocking off Hempfield 45-44 in overtime.

And when Cedar Crest knocked off Warwick 54-37 across town in Lititz, the Falcons grabbed the section championship for the second year in a row — with no playoff needed this time around.

Keep checking back here for playoff updates. I should also have sites/times for next week’s L-L League playoffs, as well. And keep checking back for my L-L girls’ playoff preview, with plenty of stats and news and notes. That should be ready for Saturday’s paper.
