PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hailey Carangelo, Lebanon Catholic: The Beavers had three league games last week, and Carangelo, Lebanon Catholic’s sophomore shooting guard, played the starring role in all three games: On Wednesday, she scored 20 points in the Beavers’ 72-55 Section 4 win over Pequea Valley. On Friday, she matched her season-high with 23 points in the Beavers’ 53-29 Section 4 win over Annville-Cleona. And on Saturday, in a makeup crossover game against cross-town rival Elco, she scored 20 points in the Beavers’ 63-47 win, which kept Lebanon Catholic a game behind Lancaster Catholic and Lancaster Mennonite in the Section 4 race. Carangelo is averaging 15.4 points — fifth in the league — and she’s scored 20 or more points in her last four games in a row.
THIS WEEK’S TOP GAMES
TONIGHT
Section 1
Penn Manor (10-4, 6-1)
at Hempfield (12-2, 6-1)
Comets and Black Knights are tied for second in the section, one game behind Cedar Crest, which is at home against Warwick. Penn Manor is out to prove it belongs. A victory here would be enormous. Keep an eye on: Comets’ senior forward Kelsey Caruthers, a St. Francis recruit, who leads the L-L in scoring (21.6).
Section 2
Garden Spot (7-6, 5-2) at
Conestoga Valley (6-8, 4-3)
Buckskins are the two-time defending section champs, and they’re not quite ready to give up their title yet. CV needs a win to tie the Spartans for first. Garden Spot has won five out of six, including a gut-check victory over Ephrata — with first place on the line — last Friday. Keep an eye on: CV senior guard Allison Bauer, who joined the 1,000-career-point club last Wednesday, then dropped 29 points on Cocalico last Friday.
FRIDAY
Sections 3-4
L-S (13-1, 6-1) at
Lancaster Catholic (8-5, 6-1)
Could be a league playoff or even District 3 Triple-A playoff preview. Keep an eye on: L-S junior guard Danielle Rittenhouse, who is averaging 13.8 points in her last five games.
