PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Analicia Evans, Hempfield: The Black Knights’ senior forward had three solid performances in Hempfield’s three victories last week. On Monday, she scored 13 points in a 48-24 crossover win over Ephrata; on Wednesday she scored 12 points and hit a game-icing 3-pointer in a 42-29 Section 1 win over McCaskey; and on Friday, she scored 15 points in a 53-35 Section 1 win over Warwick. Evans is averaging a team-best 12.4 points for Hempfield, which has won nine games in a row, and is tied atop the Section 1 race with Cedar Crest with a 5-0 league mark.
TOP GAMES THIS WEEK
WEDNESDAY
Hempfield Holiday Tournament
Hempfield (9-1) vs. Lancaster Mennonite (9-1), 6 p.m.
Lancaster Catholic (5-4) vs. Dallastown, 7:30 p.m.
Plenty of intrigue here: Hempfield and Mennonite are both 9-1. Hempfield has won nine games in a row. Mennonite is coming off a thrill-a-minute 45-40 win over Lancaster Catholic. And if Catholic can get past Dallastown in the opener, the Crusaders could see red-hot Hempfield or Mennonite for the second time in less than a week in the title game on Thursday.
THURSDAY
Ephrata Holiday Tournament
McCaskey (6-3) vs. L-S (9-1), 6:30 p.m.
Ephrata (4-6) vs. Elco (4-4), 8 p.m.
McCaskey has dropped its last two games with standout senior point guard Teasia Myers nursing a right ankle sprain. She’ll be questionable for the L-S game. The Pioneers, meanwhile, are in a virtual three-way tie for the Section 3 lead with Manheim Central and Elco, which will take on host Ephrata in the nightcap. Ephrata has won two games in a row and is just a game behind Garden Spot in the Section 2 race. If Myers was 100 percent healthy, that first game would be a dandy.
