Monday column time, and this week, a trip to L-S to catch up with a pair of talented freshmen - the Pioneers’ Kelsey Souders and Katie Andrews, who are already making waves. Talk about bright futures …
When Lampeter-Strasburg held basketball tryouts prior to this season, Kelsey Souders and Katie Andrews just wanted to […]

L-L girls’ basketball notebook for Dec. 30

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
I hope everyone is having a nice holiday. Other than my bout with strep throat (anyone have a cough drop?), I can’t complain.
Since I am a stat monger, I’ll begin this week’s notebook with the scoring leaders and 3-point leaders, through all holiday tournament and non-league games over the break:
SCORING LEADERS: Twenty-seven (27) […]

L-L LEAGUE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL RANKINGS COMING OUT OF THE HOLIDAY BREAK
I hope you’re having a nice holiday season.
But not even the holiday break can keep me from my weekly rankings, which feature the same five teams as last week – just in a different order of sorts.
We hop back into L-L League play […]

Penn State bowl prediction

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
Sorry. No big, elaborate Penn State-Texas A&M preview. No grids. No stats. No notes about the TV crew. Too much going on right now (Christmas, family gatherings, girls’ basketball beat, etc, etc).
But I do have a prediction for you:
Penn State 38, Texas A&M 10.
This will be a rout. But do tune in …

L-S holds off McCaskey, Ephrata races past Elco

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
I was in Ephrata on Thursday night for the first round of the Ephrata Holiday Tournament. L-S survived McCaskey’s wild comeback in the opener, and Ephrata kept on chugging in the nightcap, setting up a Mountaineers-Pioneers (that’s a lot of eers) final on Friday. Here is my story from Friday’s New Era:
They are […]

ONCE AGAIN, HOST BLACK KNIGHTS, CRUSADERS WILL MEET IN HEMPFIELD HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
It has become one of the better - and bitter - rivalries in local girls’ basketball circles.
For the last 12 years, Hempfield has invited Lancaster Catholic to play in its holiday tournament.
Tonight, for the 11th time each, the Black Knights and […]

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
I screwed up the starting times of the girls’ Hempfield Holiday Tournament in my preview stuff a couple of days ago.
If you showed up at Hempfield on Wednesday night at 6, hoping to catch Hempfield vs. Lancaster Mennonite, instead you were treated to Lancaster Catholic vs. Dallastown first - then the Hempfield-Mennonite game.
If […]

Digging all of the lead changes already this season.
Seems like there is a great race in every section so far, meaning things could get mighty interesting when L-L League play starts up again in (gulp) 2008.
Happy New Year to you, while I’m at it.
A bit of a shakeup once again in my rankings […]

The first major checkpoint of any basketball season is upon us:
The holiday break.

MILLERSVILLE IS IN THE MARKET FOR A HEAD FOOTBALL COACH. AGAIN. HERE ARE THREE GUYS WHO SHOULD GET INTERVIEWS - PRONTO.
I really liked Joe Trainer, Millersville’s outgoing football coach. Straight shooter. Awesome X and O guy. Brutally honest with the media. Genuinely cared about his kids, especially when the going got tough. And […]

Changes ahead in District 3 football playoffs

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
Local high school football fan?
Stumbled across a very intersting article in the Harrisburg Patriot-News late last week, detailing changes in the District 3 football playoffs.
Looks like the Triple-A champ (L-S won that crown this year) will enter the PIAA playoffs in the western bracket.
And there will be no more District 3/6 Quad-A sub-regional.
For […]

Hempfield knocks off short-handed McCaskey

JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com
I was in the big city on Wednesday for McCaskey girls’ hosting Hempfield. Red Tornado stud point guard Teasia Myers missed the game (and will miss a few more games) with an ankle injury. So it wasn’t exactly the greatest game of all-time for McCaskey’s offense, which sputtered without Myers. Here is my […]
