JEFFREY REINHART jreinhart@LNPnews.com

Plenty of big performances in Week 8 (most coming in a driving rainstorm, which made all of them even sweeter), but after whittling them down, here’s who I went with for my 3 Stars:

*** Malcolm Williams, Reading QB – The senior dual-threat signal-caller helped the Red Knights beat Cedar Crest with his arm and especially his feet. Williams completed 5-of-11 passes for 49 yards, but did most of his damage with his wheels: 12 carries for 154 yards and three long touchdown runs in Reading’s 27-7 victory. Williams’ TD jaunts covered 37, 41 and 65 yards, respectively, as the Red Knights earned their second victory this season.

*** Eric Resch, Warwick RB – The junior ball-carrier had a whopper of a night for Warriors, who remained just one game back in Section 1 chase with a 35-7 romp over Hempfield. Resch rushed for 169 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Warriors. His TDs came on runs of 13, 2 and 3 yards, respectively, as Warwick improved to 7-1 overall.

*** Ben Guiles, Columbia RB – The senior came into the game as the league’s leading rusher, and he didn’t slow down. Guiles rushed for 155 yards and scored four touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s 66-0 beat-down over Pequea Valley. His TD runs covered 42, 30, 59 and 10 yards, respectively, giving Guiles 17 TD runs this season. Up next for Guiles and his mates: A Week 9 super showdown at Lancaster Catholic with first-place in Section 3 on the line.
