Week 7 … 3 Stars. Here goes:
*** Justin Taylor, L-S – The Pioneers’ senior speed demon makes my list for the second week in a row, and why not? Check out Taylor’s night against Elco: 8 carries for 201 yards and three touchdown runs, on totes of 62 yards, 50 yards and 35 yards. Taylor averaged 25.1 yards per touch, and L-S remained in the thick of the Section 3 race with a 42-0 win over the Raiders. Taylor also booted five extra points. His feet must have been mighty tired after the game.
*** Andrew Weller, Elizabethtown – The Bears’ bruising halfback rumbled for 165 yards on 11 carries (that’s 15 yards per carry) and busted one 80 yards for a touchdown, finding a huge hole off left tackle and barreling the distance untouched. E-town 42, Garden Spot 14, as the Bears scored 28 fourth-quarter points and won going away. Glad I got to see E-town again. They are definitely the feel-good team of the league at the moment, and they can seem to do no wrong. Week 9: Manheim Central @ E-town don’t forget.
Splitting up the final star between teammates:
*** Kyle Fisher and Kyle Keller, Cocalico – Fisher returned from a, um, lower body injury, and ran wild against Lebanon, carrying 23 times for 143 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Fisher had TD runs of 5, 3 and 25 yards, respectively, and he hauled in a 24-yard TD catch from QB Matt Carty in Cocalico’s 35-19 win over the Cedars. Keller, who not only blocked for Fisher, ran for 161 yards on 26 carries. Those two have been an awesome 1-2 punch, and they have the Eagles in line for a district-playoff bid.
