Zoinks.
Don’t even know where to start with 3 Stars this week.
Plenty of big performances to choose from.
And after untwisting the dart from the wall, here are the three best performances I went with:
*** Jon Resch, Warwick QB – Holy cow! If this were a baseball game, Resch would have taken a perfect game into the ninth, and not allowed a hit until there were two outs. And it probably would have been a cheap hit, to boot. OK, enough baseball references. Resch, the Warriors ultra efficient senior QB, clicked on 13-of-14 passes for 334 yards and he tossed 4 touchdowns – with nary a pick. 13-for-14 … that’s 93 percent. And that’s 25.7 yards per completion. And it all added up to a 49-17 win over Cedar Crest, as the Warriors snapped back strong after a 38-0 loss to Manheim Township in Week 5.
*** Sean Persch, Pequea Valley WR – Holy cow! I was at PV’s game against Annville-Cleona on Saturday, so I got to witness this performance with my very own two bespectacled eyes: Persch, the Braves’ electrifying junior playmaker, caught 14 passes (14!) for 214 yards, including fourth-quarter TD grabs of 5 yards and 24 yards, respectively; he returned a kickoff 90 yards for a TD; he had one carry for 27 yards; he kicked an extra point; and he caught a 2-point conversion pass. I thought I saw him selling leftover popcorn at the concession stand on the way out … Persch’s big day was for naught, as the Braves lost their 13th game in a row, a 43-29 decision to A-C. I’m going to dig up Persch’s all-purpose yardage numbers this week, and I’ll be sure to pass them along in my preview capsules. The kid is having an unbelievable season – but I’m sure he’d give back a good portion of his gaudy numbers for some more victories.
*** Justin Taylor, L-S RB – Holy cow! (You knew that was coming) What a night for Taylor, who carried 10 times for 119 yards (11.9 yards per pop), caught a 29-yard TD pass, and returned a kickoff 75 yards for a TD in the Pioneers’ 40-20 Section 3 showdown win over Columbia. It was the Crimson Tide’s first loss this season, and Taylor’s fingerprints were all over it.
