Andrew Peiffer delivers for Manheim Township // LNP photoPenn Manor and Manheim Township have had some epic battles on the baseball diamond over the years in the Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Their rivalry will continue Saturday, this time in the American Legion District 10 winner’s bracket semifinal round.

Penn Manor, the No. 1 seed, and Manheim Township, the No. 2 seed, remained undefeated in the double-elimination playoffs Thursday, and they’ll meet Saturday at 5 p.m. at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field.

Township won the District 10 title last year, and this year’s winner advances to the Region IV Tournament, which begins July 29 in Hanover.

Thursday, Penn Manor held off Lititz 5-3, Township topped Hempfield 7-1, New Holland knocked off Quarryville 6-1, and Ephrata beat Bainbridge 12-8.

Quarryville and Bainbridge were eliminated.

Saturday’s elimination games include Lititz against Ephrata at noon at Ephrata’s War Memorial Field, and Hempfield against New Holland at the same venue at 2:30 p.m.

Penn Manor 5, Lititz 3

Bobby Adams pitched a six-hitter and drove in a run, and D.J. Rineer and Tony Oktela knocked in a pair of runs apiece for Penn Manor.

Oktela and Adams drove in runs to give PM (15-2) a quick 2-0 lead in the first. Rineer added an RBI in the fourth, giving PM a 4-1 lead after Lititz’s Tyler Kline hit a solo homer.

Kline went 3-for-3.

Down 5-1 in its final at-bat, Lititz (9-8) rallied in the seventh, slicing PM’s lead to 5-3 on Rob Lessig’s triple and an RBI grounder by Zach Shank. Later, Zach Snyder, who drew a walk, scored on Mark Stuckey’s RBI single.

But that’s as close as Lititz got.

Manheim Township 7, Hempfield 1

Bernie Zaritzky hit a solo homer, two doubles and knocked in five runs, and Andrew Peiffer scattered six hits in six innings to lead Township (14-4).

Township seized control in the fifth, when Andrew McVey walked, Peiffer singled and Carlos X. Medina was safe on an error with McVey and Peiffer coming around to score to give Township a 3-1 lead.

One out later, Zaritzky smashed a three-run double to break the game open.

Medina added an RBI single to cap the scoring.

New Holland 6, Quarryville 1

Tyler Horst allowed just four hits in seven innings and fanned six to lead New Holland, which eliminated Quarryville.

New Holland broke the game open in the fourth behind Brian Rosato, whose two-run single scored Jared Garman and Andrew Martin. Horst also doubled and scored in the inning.

D.J. Martin went 2-for-3 with an RBI for New Holland, which improved to 9-9.

Quarryville finished its season 12-5.

Ephrata 12, Bainbridge 8

Reid Martin blasted a three-run home run in Ephrata’s seven-run sixth inning onslaught and Bainbridge was eliminated from the tourney.

Martin went 3-for-5 and knocked in four runs, Anthony Rinaldi went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Chris Adams went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs for Ephrata (9-9).

Evan Gallagher went 3-for-4 and knocked in two runs for Bainbridge, which finished its season 10-7.
