The final coaching vacancy in Lancaster-Lebanon League girls’ basketball circles is about to be filled.
Pending school board approval later this month, the New Era has learned that former Cocalico standout Shawn Martin will take over the Eagles’ program, replacing Abbie Houck, who resigned her post earlier this spring after giving birth to her first child.
Read more about Houck’s resignation here.
Martin, who scored more than 1,000-career points for Cocalico before graduating in 1990, has spent the last 13 years coaching in the Eagles’ program, including his first season with the girls’ team last year as Cocalico’s ninth-grade coach.
Martin, a Kutztown University grad who is a second-grade teacher in Cocalico’s school district, was also the Eagles’ junior high boys’ coach.
Houck, formerly Abbie Fabian, who scored 1,981 points for Cocalico before playing basketball at Elizabethtown College, led the Eagles to a 90-71 record in her six seasons on the bench.

This leaves two coaching vacancies in L-L League basketball circles, both on the boys’ side: Donegal and Elco.
