The fourth annual Lancaster-Lebanon League Senior Girls’ Basketball Showcase was contested Thursday night at Warwick. A good time was had by all.
A very big THANK YOU to the L-L League coaches, who gave me a very nice plaque at halftime.
Turns out I won the Media Award, and I was touched and honored to accept the award. I was also thrilled that my wife was there to watch, and I appreciate the kind words and the very nice ovation. Much, much obliged.
Cedar Crest senior Allison Smith also took home a plaque - she was named the L-L League coaches’ MVP.
Check out the cool photo of Allison and I with our plaques at the top of this post. <Photo courtesy the Smith family, thanks!>
As for the game …
Solanco’s Tracee Harrison scored 14 points and McCaskey’s Sasha Williams added 10 points Thursday night to lead the visiting team – coached by Elizabethtown’s Mike Pericci and Solanco’s Tom McDonald – to a 53-45 victory over the home team – coached by Penn Manor’s Ashli Schwab and Conestoga Valley’s Jerry Beekler – in the fourth Lancaster-Lebanon League Girls’ Basketball Senior Showcase at Warwick.
Cocalico’s Xeni Barakos hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 15 points to pace the home team, which never led.
In the 3-point shooting contest at halftime, Pequea Valley’s Megan Echoff hit 12 3-pointers in the first round and 10 more in the championship round to beat McCaskey’s Tyeshia Brooks, who hit 11 3-pointers in the first round.
By the way, Brooks did not hit a single 3-pointer this season, so she was a surprise entrant in the finals.
Also Thursday, the L-L League coaches named Cedar Crest’s Allison Smith, a Niagara University recruit, their league Most Valuable Player.
Smith received a plaque from Warwick coach Matt Reber and Manheim Township coach Lance Wagner, the game’s organizers.
The league coaches also made a donation to the Randy Lokey Memorial Scholarship Fund.
