Three games to go. Wow, where did this season go?
Some news, notes and observations for you …
The plot thickens.
The Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 race got a facelift Tuesday night, when Lebanon took over sole possession of first place when the Cedars topped Northern Lebanon 57-23 and Elco shocked Lampeter-Strasburg 69-60 – in Lampeter.
Lebanon (11-2, 14-6) […]

He was one of the best athletes to ever call the Lancaster-Lebanon League home.
He starred in football, basketball and track at Garden Spot before moving on to play football at Villanova.
He was a dual threat in football, where he played defensive back, wideout and quarterback, and he also returned punts and kicks.
He once scored 60 […]

My column from Monday’s New Era …
Two weeks to go.
Two weeks to put the finishing touches on the Lancaster-Lebanon League section races – two of which are deadlocked.
Two weeks to get as many wins as possible to not only qualify for the District 3 playoffs, but to get a better seed – and avoid the […]

The District 3 playoffs are nearly upon us.
Admit it: You can’t wait to make the trip to the Giant Center over and over and over again. Seems like there’s a three – or four-week stretch every year when I’m in the Giant Center literally every day. Sometimes I feel like I should just pitch a tent. […]

Believe it or not, the finish line is upon us. If you squint, you can see it.
Two weeks and four games to go, and with juicy races in Section 1 and Section 3 yet to be settled, we should be in for a fantastic (if not a photo) finish.
Based on my observations, here’s how I […]

I’ll have a complete Lancaster-Lebanon League section-by-section-by-section-by-section breakdown in my weekly column in the New Era on Monday. I’ll post it here Monday afternoon, but I hope you can pick up a copy. C’mon, it’s 50 cents.
Here’s a closer look at where we stand with two weeks and four games to go:
SECTION 1
LEADERS: Cedar Crest […]

Must say it was a real treat to finally get to see Garden Spot and Solanco play on Friday night, when I ventured out in the arctic conditions and headed to New Holland. This Solanco team is particularly spunky (and young), and not only topped Garden Spot to tie the Spartans for second place (and […]

Some mid-week musings for you …
If you haven’t noticed, Section 1 and Section 3 have gotten a ton of ink lately.
And why not?
The races in those sections are closer than close, and on any given Tuesday or Friday night, it seems like there’s a game with first-place on the line. And that won’t change […]

Wow, what a night.
Cedar Crest (still stinging from last Friday’s loss to Warwick) storms into Lancaster and wacks McCaskey, 69-40.
Not completely stunned that the Falcons won, but that final score was definitely a head-turner.
<Please check for Phil Glatfelter’s recap of the Crest-McCaskey game in Wednesday’s New Era.>
Speaking of Section 1 … just when it looked […]

I’ve wanted to post this for quite a while, but I never took 10 minutes to do it … until now.
I’ve been trying to track down all of the 1,000-career-point scorers for all 24 Lancaster-Lebanon League girls’ programs.
I have a pretty good list going, but I’m still missing a few schools.
If you’re looking for any […]

Danielle Rittenhouse was doing what she loved most — playing basketball in a pick-up game at her church.
She was 12.
That’s when her life, already altered because of a kidney disorder she was battling since birth, changed in an instant.
“All of a sudden I was having problems breathing, and my heart starting beating really fast,” said […]

Another week, another L-L League Section 1 domination in the latest District 3 power rankings (thanks to Geoff at the Harrisburg Patriot-News for doing all the math).
Section 1 teams occupy six of the top 13 spots in the rankings, including the No. 1 seed (McCaskey) and the No. 2 seed (Cedar Crest).
And wouldn’t you know […]

It’s time for the second installment of Reinhart’s Rankings: The New Era 9.
You’ll see a bit of a shakeup this week, compliments of Warwick’s big win over Cedar Crest.
Here we go …
McCaskey 10-0, 16-1 (last week 2nd) – Good wins last week over Warwick and Manheim Township, then got some major help when the Warriors […]

News and notes from another busy week in the L-L League …
And wow, what a week it was.
Raise your hand if you had unbeaten Cedar Crest visiting unbeaten McCaskey on Tuesday.
Woops.
Warwick tossed the mother of all monkey wrenches into what was supposed to be the biggest showdown yet this season.
If you didn’t see my earlier […]

Went to a girls’ basketball game on Saturday afternoon and a track meet broke out. In a game that felt more like it was being played in March, not the third week in January, Lancaster Catholic knocked heads with York Catholic. And it was an instant classic …
Didn’t think Lancaster Catholic stood a chance against […]

Lebanon senior guard Megan Strohman had a wild and wacky day on Friday, which included a trip clear across the state and back to pick up her new facemask, then a game that night against Manheim Central with second-place on the line. Here’s how she made out. My story appeared in Saturday’s New Era …
LEBANON – […]

Just scouring the scores from Friday night and I stumbled across this doozy:
Warwick 57, Cedar Crest 52 … in overtime, no less. A thriller in Lititz.
Congrats to the Warriors, who tossed a slippery monkey wrench into the Section 1 proceedings.
<I guess Warwick senior forward Kaitlyn Ober, who scored 18 points, got fired up after reading that […]

The envelope please …
We hit the halfway point in the league schedule this week, and that got me thinking …
How about some midterm awards?
SECTION 1
MVP: Hear me out here. The easy pick would be Cedar Crest senior guard Allison Smith or McCaskey junior point guard Teasia Myers (great players having great seasons for co-first-place teams), […]

Some mid-week observations for you …
I’m glad I finally got to see Cedar Crest on Tuesday night – once the game finally got going.
With 4:15 to go in the JV game, all the lights in the gym went out because there was a car accident down the road, causing the power to go out.
Once the […]

Hempfield volleyball star Christi Griffiths has been named the Gatorade Thirst Quencher Pennsylvania Girls’ Volleyball Player of the Year.
The 6-1 senior middle hitter is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls’ Volleyball Player of the Year, which will be announced later this month.
Griffiths, a Fordham recruit, led Hempfield to a 24-1 record last fall, capped […]
