Add CrossRock to the growing list of fans of the excellent, uplifting new movie, “Fireproof.”
The new, solidly Christian film is winning lots of good reviews, and selling lots of tickets in mainstream theaters … and it’s no surprise why.
I saw it this past weekend, so now might be a good time to point out that with the great message and entertainment package of the film, the music is awfully good, too.
It’s easy to tell how the makers of the movie, along with taking care to weave a believable, well-acted tale, also took time to properly weave in excellent music from Third Day, Casting Crowns, Warren Barlow and others.
The songs serve as the perfect soundtrack to the crumbling-can-it-be-saved? marriage of increasingly, and equally, stubborn fire Capt. Caleb and Catherine Holt (Kirk Cameron and Erin Bethea).
The list of performers reads like at least a partial who’s-who of contemporary Christiam music:
“This Is Who I Am” and “Otherside,” Third Day; “Brighter Days,” Leeland; “You Belong to Me,” Grey Holiday; “Slow Fade,” Casting Crowns; “While I’m Waiting,” John Waller; and my personal favorite, “Love Is Not a Fight” by Warren Barfield.
The way Barfield’s excellent song gets used in the movie is the best, but I don’t want to spell the ending, so I shouldn’t talk about it!
It’s also cool to see Cameron, looking just like he did back when “Growing Pains” was on TV, slightly turn down Third Day on the CD player to ask a Christian firefighting cohort some questions about his faith.
And “Slow Fade” joins the very best of Casting Crowns’ many excellent songs the last several years.
It’s a song that warns what happens when we compromise our Christian standards, and the tune is used at a timely point in the movie when both main characters are doing just that.
A “Fireproof iMix” is available by going to the movie Web page, www.FireproofTheMovie.com.
Enjoy the listening, not just the watching!
“Fireproof” … great music along with the movie
