Where does it end?

The row between Millersville University officials and the Lancaster Republican House delegation over the scheduled Bill Ayers lecture has become so high profile - and those GOP lawmakers bear some of the responsibility for that - it’s become a game of who blinks first. And if MU caves and cancels Ayers’ event scheduled for March 19, as the GOP lawmakers are hoping, it raises a serious question about accountability versus autonomy for the state system of higher education.

If a small group of legislators successfully pressure a state-runned university into canceling a speaker they find abhorent, we ought to consider the implications that would have on the relationship between the state system of higher education and our legislative politicians. 

That’s what I’m writing about for tomorrow’s column. B1 on the right hand side. Look for the photo with the ominous shadows on a face that smirks like he knows something nobody else does.

Evening Coffee returns here Monday. Five days into my Lent sacrifice of lattes, and I haven’t completely lost my sanity. I have, on the other hand, relied on Sheetz drip coffee, which oddly takes the flavor of the styrofoam cup its poured into. Uck.

Winter’s not giving up even if February did, so if you teach or attend a school, here’s a toast of newsroom brew in my mug to at least a two-hour delay. Let’s head into the new week on a good note.
