Congressman Joe Pitts, the Chester County Republican who represents Lancaster, said Tuesday Israel’s recent military action against Hamas in Gaza is warranted:

“War is never the best solution to anything, and a ceasefire agreement should be negotiated as soon as possible.  However, I support Israel’s right to defend itself as a sovereign nation against the violent actions of Hamas.  By launching a series of rocket attacks into
Israel starting on December 19th and refusing to extend the six-month long ceasefire, Hamas jeopardized the lives of thousands of innocent Israelis and provoked Israeli retaliation.  It is my hope that a sustainable new ceasefire will be negotiated that will end Hamas’ unjustified attacks and bring relief to those living in both Gaza and
Israel. The humanitarian and economic situation in
Gaza is grave, and efforts to improve these conditions, stop the violence, and end the suffering of innocent Israelis and Palestinians will only be accomplished when Hamas ends all attacks and a ceasefire agreement is negotiated. ”
