Sheeee’ssss baaaaack!

She’s Heidi Wheaton, and the current East Hempfield Township supervisor, who sought a spot in the state Senate and a seat on the board of Lancaster County Commissioners, faces re-election in 2009. Wheaton currently holds a 6-year term on the township supervisors, and 2009 marks the end of that term.
The Nest in Monday’s print edition looks at the pitfalls and potential for Wheaton to run for re-election. Some might think it’s a no-brainer. She’s won twice in East Hempfield municipal elections, she’s got deep financial advantages over any opponent, name recognition, accomplishments as a township supervisor like the audit of the golf course finances and so on. Why wouldn’t she run?
But what does her performance in the 2006 primary for state Senate and 2007 primary for county commissioner foreshadow for an ‘09 re-election bid? Likewise, what does Doug Brubaker’s victory in last year’s election, in which he beat back the county Republican Party’s write-in candidate to win a seat on East Hempfield’s board, have anything to do with Wheaton’s chances? This is one of the top storylines to watch in the local 2009 election season. Check it out in Monday’s print edition.
