Strange sighting during today’s rally for Republican John McCain.
When you’re a member of the press and you show up to cover a rally, you flash your press credentials and then the campaign gives you its own pass, usually with the candidate’s slogan or name on it.
Today, the McCain campaign handed out laminated blue cards with “Country First * McCain * Palin” in white print … and a picture of the Phanatic, the fuzzy green what-ever-the-heck-that-thing-is mascot for the newly-minted NL champs Philadelphia Phillies. The Phanatic is pointed at the camera, and on his shirt are the names “McCain * Palin.” It appears to be super-imposed over his usual red-pinstriped jersey as the red lines are barely visible underneath the names.
I called the Phillies media relations department and have not heard back. Are the Phillies endorsing McCain? Did the campaign print these up without permission of the team? Dunno.
