Thompson coming to Lancaster

You probably heard by now that Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin are stumping in this area in the coming days. McCain’s in Downingtown tomorrow and Palin at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Saturday morning.

And now, a little Hollywood star power’s comin’ to the Garden Spot. And I thought actors and actresses all supported Democratic presidential nominees. Tsk, tsk.

Former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson will be in Lancaster on Oct. 29 on behalf of McCain. Thompson was an actor before he was a senator from Tennessee, appearing in Law & Order and movies like Hunt for Red October. Details are still being worked out, but Lancaster GOP executive director William Coder said the event will either be a breakfast or lunch. Your scrambled eggs will come with a side of southern drawl.

Here’s Thompson’s speech during the Republican National Convention several weeks ago. It set the tone for the rest of the week, and if Thompson was this energetic and urgent during the Republican primary, he may have been the nominee:

Update: The McCain campaign said Wednesday afternoon that Cindy McCain will stop in Lancaster sometime between Saturday and Monday. She’s taking a tour of the state and the Garden Spot is one of her stops. Details are forthcoming.
