That’s right, Nesters. Today is Bruce Springsteen Day at the Nest because I’m shortly heading up that highway choked with broken heroes on a last-chance power drive. Springsteen comes to Hershey for the first time in his career, and I’ll have the privilege of covering the show. Sometimes, journalism can be a charmed life.
I won’t bore you with fawning over the Boss, his music and how I grew up in an off-the-beaten path neighborhood in Holtwood as my parents and their friends spun Bruce’s CDs endlessly. I will go on record in saying the greatest concert I’ve ever seen personally was Springsteen in Shea Stadium at the end of the Rising tour. I’m tell you, never has a baseball stadium shook with cheers the way Shea did that night when the Boss broke out the opening chords of the Rising in a city not quite recovered from the 9/11 attacks.
To celebrate tonight, let’s have a few of my fav tunes by the Boss:
Radio Nowhere
Tunnel of Love
I’m On Fire
The Rising (live at the Grammy’s)
All the Way Home (from the Devils and Dust CD)
For the more liberal, anti-war Nesters, War from the 1985 tour
I don’t care what anybody says, when Bruce strips down Thunder Road and slows the tempo, it’s his absolute best song
Human Touch
