State Attorney General Tom Corbett appears to be following through on his promise to investigate Republicans as well as Democrats in the Bonusgate case. From the Associated Press:
Steve Miskin, a state House Republican spokesman, said 20 to 30 House staffers have been contacted by investigators in recent weeks and are cooperating. A source said the House GOP’s replacement of its computer equipment in 2007 has drawn interest from the investigators.
Miskin maintains all prior records were saved on the Republicans’ network servers, and that the changeover was part of the caucus’s three- to four-year replacement cycle.
Weeks ago, Corbett announced charges against a dozen House Democrats including a former state lawmaker, a current legislator and 10 staffers (including two formerly prominent Lancaster Dems) for their alleged roles in a tax-money-for-campaigning scheme, and during his press conference, Corbett said all four legislative caucuses would come under his scrutiny.
I wouldn’t draw any conclusions yet from these developments, but at least it confirms that Dems weren’t the only ones targeted.
