Quite a discussion grew out of the “Obama as Messiah” post, so I wanted to make visitors to the Nest aware of an article by Time.com’s Amy Sullivan on the same topic, and she also sees the McCain ad as a play toward the evangelical vote.

| usedmeat 8/9/08 10:55 PM | Hey, if it hurts Obama come November I'm all for it. After what he and his flying monkeys did to the Clintons it's karma. |
| justplainjoe 8/10/08 6:57 AM | good lord... the evangelicals don't trust mccain, for good reasons, so what does mccain do? does he act like a better christian? does he try to be a better christian? does he repent? does he atone? nope, he uses a slick ad that employs emotional manipulation to elicit a reaction from people of good will. if the devil were to run for president of the united states would he advertise himself as the devil or would he pretend to be a man of christ, whilst doing anti-christian deeds, like ohh, bearing false witness? but wait, i am using logic. using logic is illogical. |
| Wonder 8/10/08 10:43 AM | Vote the lesser of two evils ! Vote McCain ! I would like to see that on Republican media advertisements. That, to me, is the truth. |

Of course, the beauty is that you can use it to dismiss any argument you disagree with, relegating it to of less importance.the evangelicals don't trust mccain, for good reasons, so what does mccain do? does he act like a better christian? does he try to be a better christian? does he repent? does he atone? nope, he uses a slick ad that employs emotional manipulation to elicit a reaction from people of good will. if the devil were to run for president of the united states would he advertise himself as the devil or would he pretend to be a man of christ, whilst doing anti-christian deeds, like ohh, bearing false witness? but wait, i am using logic. using logic is illogical. Bravo on the tactic. It is almost worthy of qualifying you for a career in politics. |
