Republican Sen. Mike Brubaker, who represents northern Lancaster County, successfully underwent surgery Wednesday to remove his prostate. The 50-year-old Warwick Township resident elected in 2006 found out earlier this year he had prostate cancer but continued on with his duties.

His office released the following statements Monday:

Dr. David Lee, M.D., from Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center and Chief of the Division of Urology at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center performed the surgery and said the Senator was a perfect candidate.

Mike Brubaker (LNP Archive)According to Dr. Lee, “The surgery itself went very smoothly and the Senator is doing well. If no complications arise, patients typically return to work full time in two weeks.”

The Senator was in good spirits following the surgery. “I feel great and am confident that the treatment and care I received will allow me to return to serving the people of the 36th Senatorial District in the manner they expect,” said Brubaker.

“All of the services and assistance offered through the 36th District offices will continue during my recovery,” Brubaker added, noting that he plans to attend to Senate business as his recovery allows.

We at the Nest wish the Senator a speedy recovery.
