Guv: “Suck it in” on gun control

May 5th, 2008 3:22 pm · 0 comments

Never one to miss an opportunity for symbolism, Gov. Ed Rendell today used a ceremony to honor slain police officers to push his gun-control agenda.

Rendell, according to the Associated Press, told the General Assembly to “suck it in, do the right thing” and pass comprehensive overhaul of the state’s gun laws. Rendell has advocated for:

Requiring lost and stolen handguns to be reported to law enforcement.

Allowing people to purchase only one gun per month (Rendell emphasizes this will not apply to law enforcement, licensed dealers or people whose guns are lost or stolen).

Allowing local municipalities to enact their own handgun restrictions via a local voter referendum.

Rendell was speaking in Harrisburg at the 15th annual memorial service for the Fraternal Order of Police
