From CNN.com:
An increasingly firm Howard Dean told CNN again Thursday that he needs superdelegates to say who they’re for – and “I need them to say who they’re for starting now.”
“We cannot give up two or three months of active campaigning and healing time,” the Democratic National Committee Chairman told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. “We’ve got to know who our nominee is.”
And if they declare now, and Clinton’s lead in Pennsylvania has shrunk to single digits with Obama about to launch another tour of the state, with her negatives rising nationally, with Obama showing signs he is indeed competitive against McCain if Gallup’s newest poll should be believed, this couldn’t be any more inauspicious for Clinton.
The question in my mind, though, is does Dean have the gravitas to sway the party as oppose to the considerable influence former President Bill Clinton has? This is truly a high noon-type showdown between the old and new guards of the party, whether the Clinton’s influence and leadership continues into the first and second decade of the 21st century, or whether the Democratic Party’s opportunity for a new unknown chapter about to begin?
