… in March, arguably his worst stretch since voting began in Iowa. He was reeling from the Ohio loss and finishing second to Hillary Clinton in the Texas popular vote. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy threatened to derail Obama’s campaign, and then Clinton stormed out to a double-digit lead among likely Democratic voters in Pennsylvania.
Now, the $40 million figure is less than the $55 million he raked in during February, but then again, how much money is there to go around, anyway?
Clinton raised $35 million during February, her worst month when she lost 11 straight contests to Obama and was criticized even by supporters for not having a campaign strategy past Super Tuesday on Feb. 5. A strong showing here could give Clinton’s campaign a boost in confidence after a troubled week for her campaign - the Bosnia embellishment was exposed, her husband reportedly went ballistic in San Francisco about Richardson’s endorsement, Obama chipped away at her Pennsylvania lead and the calls for her to drop out have grown louder and more frequent.
She has not released her fundraising figures for March, and neither has John McCain.
