The Barnstormers continue to fine-tune their roster as they head down the stretch. It’s not because they believe they have a realistic chance of chasing down York and it’s not because they want to play spoiler in the playoff race. It’s because the Barnstormers want to prevent September from becoming an unmitigated disaster.
“We still want to present a good product on the field,” manager Von Hayes said. “If we see players that are packing it in for the season, that’s not going to happen. We’re going to make some changes. We’re going to get some people in here that we feel will give us a solid effort.”
The manager added …
“It’s not only winning, it’s how you go about whether you win or lose. Losing stinks. But if you put together a solid effort and guys are hustling, you can swallow some losses. For a while there we were getting a combination of both. We were just dead with no energy and losing. That’s not good.”
The Barnstormers have made a series of transactions over the past two days:
-
P Coby Mavroulis was added
C Brian Munhall was de-activated
C/1B Dave Adamchick was activated
SS Danny Gonzalez was put on the DL
Those moves follow the additions of OF Bryan Sabatella and INF Ron Fenwick.
How this season ends will affect how people view this team. Although it’s impossible to create a positive public perception – in terms of the on-field product – after two non-contending seasons, the Barnstormers want to prevent this season from becoming a punch line. That’s where it looked like it was heading a few days ago, when Lancaster lost four games in a row and allowed 59 runs in the process.
FOUR MORE NEW GUYS:
The Barnstormers have signed P Mac Nelson, P Monte Mansfield, OF Gary Harris and C Argenis Tavarez.
