Clyde Williams’ time with the Barnstormers didn’t last long. The outfielder has signed with Potros de Tijuana of the Mexican League. It’s the same league where Jose Ortiz and Reggie Taylor are playing.

Although Williams was excited about his first season in Lancaster, both because of the ballpark and the city, he was given an offer he couldn’t refuse.

The 10-year pro will earn three-times his Atlantic League salary in Mexico.

“If you get a chance to get a decent paycheck and play at a higher level, you’ve got to take it,” Williams said.

Williams and his agent, Oscar Suarez, have been trying to get the veteran a spot in the Mexican League for years, but the fact that Williams has never played above A ball always held him back.

Tijuana had a sudden need for a power-hitting outfielder/first baseman and Williams’ name was on the team’s list.

“I love it here in Lancaster,” said Williams, who could play for his new team as soon as Friday. “The accommodations aren’t going to be the same. There’s going to be a language barrier there. But it was a move I had to make.”

In Williams’ absence, Manny Santana will see a lot of time at designated hitter. The Barnstormers are also expected to pursue another big bat.

Since the Mexican League season ends in late July, Williams could return to Lancaster during the second half – if there’s room for him.
