The New Era story is here.
For those of you anxiously awaiting the next batch of signings, today is your lucky day. The Barnstormers have
announced the addition of seven players: second baseman Bo Hart, outfielder Clyde Williams, infielder Mike Woods and pitchers Josh Stevens, Jason Norderum, Gustavo Martinez and Manny Vazquez-Santiago.
Let’s take a closer look:
Hart, 30, is the big-league second baseman I’ve alluded to recently. He reached the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2003 — batting .272 with 4 homers and 30 RBIs in 77 games. He spent most of the past three years in Triple-A.
Williams, 27, is the power-hitting Atlantic League outfielder I’ve mentioned in the past. A lefty swinger, he batted .266 with 20 homers and 67 RBIs in 120 games for the Atlantic City Surf last season. He’ll probably DH most of the time in Lancaster.
Woods, 25, is a former first-round draft pick by the Detoit Tigers who didn’t play professionally last season. A right-handed hitter, he has a lifetime line of .240/.332/.342. Although he has primarily played second base and outfield, manager Frank Klebe wants to see if Woods can serve as an infield utility man.
Stevens, as we’ve discussed, was acquired in a trade with the Nashua Pride in exchange for future considerations earlier this month. The righthander went 5-3 with a 4.46 ERA in 13 games for Nashua in the Can-Am League last season.
Noderum, 25, divided his time at three levels for the Washington Nationals last season, topping out in Triple-A. He’s a 6-3, 220-pound lefty with a lifetime ERA of 5.15. Most of his seven-year career has been spent below Double-A, but he did play in Harrisburg for a while.
Martinez, 26, spent seven seasons in the Seattle Mariners’ system. The Dominican native reached Triple-A for the first time at age 21. He is 42-36 with a 3.32 ERA in 182 career games. Klebe described Martinez as a possible No. 1 starter.
Vazquez-Santiago is a candidate to pitch out of the bullpen. He’s a former Detroit Tigers draft pick who pitched in Puerto Rico last season.
