… Obama’s as big a liar as any of them.
It wasn’t really surprising that Barack Obama decided to forego public financing of his presidential campaign.
He’s this year’s champion fundraiser — raising $265.4 million so far to John McCain’s roughly $96.7 million, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
Why not maintain that advantage, rather than accepting the $84.1 million spending limit that comes with public funds?
The trouble is that Obama promised to take the public financing if his Republican opponent were to do the same.
McCain, like every major party presidential candidate since the money first became available in 1976, is taking it.
So, Obama is breaking his first promise as a presidential candidate BEFORE he takes office.
His excuse, that he needs the extra money to counter the “smears and attacks” he anticipates from GOP-leaning independent groups, is, of course, absurd.
Left-leaning independent groups are raising money hand over fist.
Not that I want anybody taking public funding. It’s a silly system.
In fact, Obama’s fundraising has been impressive: Small donors inspired by a candidate helping him win election with their $25-$200 donations.
But Obama’s embrace of the kneejerk liberal mantra that money is evil and should be squeezed out of the system is troubling for two reasons:
1. It’s silly. As his campaign shows, fundraising can be a good indicator of a candidate’s strength. Individuals tend to invest their money only when they really believe in a candidate.
2. It appears to have been solely self-serving. Obama was willing to live with spending limits because he assumed he would trail his Republican opponent in fundraising.
Now that he’s ahead, that promise gets broken.
An agent of change he aint.
What a surprise …

The libs also pooh pooed his buddies' accepting sweetheart deals from Countrywide mortgage - there was little or no coverage of that chicanery from the media. Includes Chris Dodd, Dem from Connecticut who is chairman of the Senate Banking committee! As well as VP casndiate searcher Jim Johnson. What abouit the "Change" this clown is promoting..eat it up libs! How many readers out ther in LOL got great rates becuase you were "nice" to your mortgage company?? | Big Dog 6/24/08 2:55 PM | Politicians will continue to do what is best for them, not what is best for the country. Every person in the Senate has a net worth of over a million dollars. Most are attorneys. Most have no clue how real people lead their lives. They are similar to privledged, spoiled children. I have actually witnessed a senior democratic senator throw a tantrum when I wouldn't let him order the surf and turf at dinner. My 10 year old behaves better |

And let's also not discuss that McCain is possibly breaking a campaign finance law that he wrote. And then there's the Keating 5 deal. I could go on and on about this idiotic stuff as much as you can go on and on about this idiotic stuff. |
| dragonrider 6/24/08 6:30 PM | As was said in another thread, this election is going to be filled with rumor and inuendo and lies. BHO is going to need every penny he can get to fight the smears of the right. God Bless him for foresight. |

The fact is your blessed candidate is as phony as any of them, I know, the truth hurts. There is no innuendo or rumor about what is discussed in this thread. No one is discussing his religion or any of of his radical friends. All this is real and true. You HAVE to be wondering what else will come out about BHO and how much it will make you grit your teeth and tell yourself it's all runor and innuendo. It has to be disapointing in your idealistic world that your guy is a fake and an inexperienced fraud who happens to be able to make women faint when he speaks. Just don't be disapointed next year if he wins. You will get what you thought was a great package. Just like Pelosi and Congress. 4 years and out! |
| bigstew 6/24/08 8:18 PM | He still gets my vote, though I won't make excuses for him, it is disappointing. |

Clearly you are very concerned about McCain and all his problems. But hey, you guys voted for him to run. Too bad he's having problems standing up to Obama. |

In fact many on the right are saying that if BHO wins, it would be a good thing for the movement because he will be Jimmy Carter the second. All I am pointing out is that BHO ain't no Messiah, he IS slimy and if he does win it, you will see. Just be aware of who you are enamored with is all I am saying. He is pulling the wool over "The Folks", and they don't even have a clue! |

Its ashame the media is going to select our next president. At least when he gets elected, America will see what fools we have been for allowing leftwing media to tell us who to vote for. Why not show all his weaknesses as well as strengths? I'll tell you why, because he's as flawed a candidate as has come down the road in 20 yrs. Its okay, remember koolaid drinkers, you reap what you sow. |

| rotenone 7/16/08 7:32 PM | You say Obama is as big a liar as any of them, but you don't name "them." Could you be referring to other politicians? Sure sounds that way. Are you admitting, then, that Bush, McCain and the rest are liars? Also, money is such a bad word now that the Dems have been better at fundraising. |
| lee41 7/17/08 12:37 AM | McCain is doing fine, especially funneling money through the RNC: QUOTE Sen. John McCain raised $62.3 million for his presidential bid in the second quarter in conjunction with the Republican National Committee, according to campaign-finance reports filed Tuesday night. The campaign gathered most of the money using an unprecedented system that allows it to collect checks as large as $70,000 from an individual by parsing the money between the campaign, the national party and state committees in four states. That fund raised $41.2 million in the three-month period. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1216179699...=googlenews_wsj |
