For my left-leaning readers

May 30th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Who wrote this?
Of (George W.) Bush, it may be said he was a far better politician and candidate than his father, but as a statesman and world leader, he could not carry the old man’s loafers.
Was it:
A. Chris Matthews
B. John Murtha
C. Dick Morris
D. Pat Buchanan
OR
E. Scott McClellan?
It’s part of a pretty interesting piece that arges […]

McClellan vs. McClellan

May 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan will apparently say ANYTHING to sell his new book — “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception.”
So, which is is Scott?
“I do not believe he (President Bush) or his White House deliberately or consciously sought to deceive the American people.”
OR
“He (again, President Bush) […]

Prediction: McCain 270, Obama 268

May 29th, 2008 · No Comments

That’s not my prediction. It’s Robert Novak’s at the Evans-Novak Political Report, and it’s pretty interesting.
Two-hundred-70 is, of course, the minimum number needed to win the White House outright, so Novak sees a nail-biter ahead.
The prediction’s strong suit is Novak’s experienced gut; its weakness, being based also on recent polls, which can shift a lot […]

California gay marriage ruling

May 27th, 2008 · No Comments

Gosh, some “progressive” blather is awfully hard to read.
Still, knowing this would be the case, I read the California Supreme Court’s ruling granting homosexual couples the right to marry.
It starts off with a lie:

It also is important to understand at the outset that our task in this
proceeding is not to decide whether we believe, as […]

Run against Bush, not Obama?

May 15th, 2008 · No Comments

A New York Times article today suggests that congressional Republicans are running in fear after Tuesday’s loss of a conservative Mississippi House seat to the Democrats, the party’s third loss this year of a seat in a special election.
The Times’ GOP sources say it’s time to stop running against Barack Obama, as the GOP noninee […]

Immigrants settling in

May 15th, 2008 · No Comments

Immigrants are blending into the American melting pot better than ever, according to a Manhattan Institute study released this week.
Immigrants who arrived in the United States after 1995 are culturally assimilating more rapidly than their predecessors.
But
Mexican immigrants experience very low rates of economic and civic assimilation. … The assimilation index shows that immigrants from Mexico […]

Urdaneta launches site

May 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Jose Urdaneta, the Democratic nominee to succeed state Sen. Gib Armstrong, posted his Web site Monday afternoon.
So far, he’s rolled out some positions on education, including his call for a move away from property taxes to fund schools and a big boost in state funding of public schools. He promises to tackle health care, too, […]

Does Clinton have a point?

May 14th, 2008 · No Comments

OK, it’s over. Hillary Clinton, trailing hopelessly in the delegate race for the Democratic nomination, ought to just make way for Barack Obama and help him unite the Democratic Party for the fall campaign.
That’s the mantra Clinton is resisting, saying her wins in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia matter, and will matter a lot in […]

Bill Neff’s back

May 12th, 2008 · No Comments

I have reposted the link for Bill Neff’s campaign site for the 13th District state Senate seat representing Lancaster City, its suburbs and just about everywhere south, plus parts of eastern York County.
Neff is considering a write-in bid to succeed retiring state Sen. Gib Armstrong.
One thing that makes one wonder about any chance of success: […]

Big Brother prosecution

May 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Two jurors, including the forewoan who had to tell the judge that Levi Stoltzfoos was found guilty in a Lancaster courtroom yesterday, were near tears.
It’s no wonder.
The prosecution of Stoltzfoos, convicted yesterday of trying to avoid requirements that banks report his deposits, is worrisome.
What it says is that the government need not prove you really […]
