Sen. Barack Obama came to Lancaster City this morning, being cheered by nearly 2,000 people at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology while making his pitch for change.
“We can’t wait to fix our schools. We can’t wait to fix our health-care system. We can’t wait to bring back good jobs and wages. We can’t wait for […]

When did Hillary’s campaign jump the shark?
March 31st, 2008 · No Comments
It’s hard to say just when Senator Clinton’s campaign went completely off the tracks, or, as in the “Happy Days” reference above, lost any plausible plot line for continuing (as the sit-com did when the Fonz got on the water skis for his shark jump).
Taking them in reverse chronological order, was it:
1. When she decided, […]

Casey backs Obama
March 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment
Apparently trying to prove he can so get the votes of the less intelligent, Barack Obama appeared with Bob Casey Jr. in Pittsburgh to accept his endorsement.
“I really believe that in a time of danger around the world and division here at home, Barack Obama can lead us, he can heal us, he can help […]

McCain’s big speech
March 28th, 2008 · No Comments
John McCain’s speech to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council on Wednesday offered an important outline of the presidential hopeful’s approach to foreign policy, but only a few specifics he hadn’t offered before.
There were, however, some interesting reactions to and reads on the speech:
The Wall Street Journal points out that McCain’s promise of multilateralism plays […]

Dr. Death runs for Congress
March 25th, 2008 · No Comments
Jack Kevorkian, the assisted-suicide advocate who served eight years in prison for second-degree murder, is running for Congress in Michigan.
At a Monday news conference announcing his bid, The Assoicated Press reports that Kevorian railed against the war in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay, calling the U.S. a “criminal nation.”
But no, he’s not running as a Democrat.
He’s […]

Rough stuff II
March 25th, 2008 · No Comments
I feel silly for not having seen it this way yesterday but what’s most incredible about the recent name-calling back-and-forth between the Clinton and Obama campaigns is James Carville calling Bill Richardson “Judas.”
So, the Clintons are like Jesus?
Yikes!
Jim Geraghty offers an interesting take on this and other Democratic infighting today on National Review Online.

Rough stuff
March 24th, 2008 · No Comments
The campaigns of the two leading Democrats for president are not being nice to one another at all.
As the Associated Press reports:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Prominent supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama on Sunday both faulted Obama’s campaign for allowing a retired general and backer of the Illinois senator to equate comments by Clinton’s […]

Obama’s big speech
March 21st, 2008 · 1 Comment
I apologize for being such a late-comer to commenting on Barack Obama’s speech Tuesday in Philadelphia on race.
My reasons for delay are two: First, I thought it was a great speech, an intelligent, sensitive and nuanced approach to a topic others so often fumble into oblivion, irresponsibly exploit or cliche to death. And, second, so […]

A glut of pork
March 20th, 2008 · No Comments
Many blame pork barrel spending for the Republicans’ loss of control of Congress in the 2006 elections. Think Democrats’ got the message?
(If you’re answer is yes, think again.)
Check out this report from Roll Call:
“In a sure sign that earmarks remain as popular as ever, an overload of pork requests clogged the House Appropriations Committee’s Web […]

Where McCain should break with Bush III
March 20th, 2008 · No Comments
This is probably my final post on this matter, definitely for this week anyway.
One area where John McCain owes to his nation, and to his party, to break with, or at least refine, the current administration’s policy is on pre-emptive war.
While McCain, and we as a nation for that matter, are stuck with Iraq.
Its legacy, […]
